Meet 2019 Pearls of the Peak Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Recipient Aizana Hunt. Aizana is a graduate of Fountain-Fort Carson High School. She will be attending the University of Northern Colorado, UNC and majoring in Nursing.

Aizana has participated in several community programs to include: Educating Children of Color, the African American Youth Leadership Conference - AAYLC, and Leadership Pikes Peak Leading Edge.

Meet Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Beta Omega Chapter 2019 Johnnie Martin award recipient Ms. Annie Pelt. The Johnnie Martin award is given in honor of Mrs. Martin, a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Beta Omega Chapter. The award is presented to a community member who has excelled in the field of education.

Ms. Pelt an alumna of Jackson State University,teaches Kindergarten at John Adams Elementary School in Colorado Springs School District 11. Ms. Pelt is a previous Teacher of the Year recipient with Lynwood Unified School District. She is described as a Compassionate, Competent, and Creative educator.

Outside of education, Ms. Pelt enjoys sports and staying active. She is a member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church Colorado Springs and volunteers with the Girl Scouts.

Meet Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Beta Omega Chapter 2019 W. Juanita Roberts award recipient Ms. Kathryn Young. The W. Juanita Roberts award is given in honor of Mrs. Roberts, a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Beta Omega Chapter. The award is presented to a community member who has excelled in the field of music and arts.

Ms. Young served as the City Clerk for the City of Colorado Springs from 1994 - 2011. Outside of public service, Ms. Young is an accomplished musician. She has served on the Shivers Concert Series Advisory Committee, as a musician for the Voices of Angels Independent Missionary Baptist Church and Youth Choir and Jammin’ for Jesus withPayne Chapel AME Colorado Springs.

Meet Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Beta Omega Chapter 2019 Minnie Ray Hunter award recipient Ms. Essie Abbott. The Minnie Ray Hunter award is given in honor of Mrs. Hunter, a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Beta Omega Chapter. The award is presented to a community member who has excelled in the field of business.

Ms. Abbott an alumna of Texas Southern University and The University of New Mexico - UNM enjoyed a seventeen year career teaching Business and Economics to high school and college students in the US and Germany before transitioning to a career with the Bell System Mountain States Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC), known today as Century Link. Ms. Abbott worked in Regulatory Finance. Ms. Abbott is a member of Payne Chapel AME Colorado Springs and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Meet Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Beta Omega Chapter 2019 Lillian Mallory award recipient Ms. Lynne A. Williams. The Lillian Mallory award is given in honor of Mrs. Mallory, a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Beta Omega Chapter. The award is presented to a community member who has excelled in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Ms. Williams an alumna of the University of Northern Colorado, UNC, UCCS, and the The University of Oklahoma taught Biology (primarily) at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs School District 11 for 20 years. Ms. Williams also taught a pre-engineering course (Project Lead The Way). As a Master Teacher, she taught other teachers from around the country how to teach the course. She served as both Coordinator and as an Elective Teacher for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program. When Colorado Springs School District 11 offered its own trainings for AVID, Ms. Williams taught teachers how to integrate the AVID strategies into their science classrooms.

Ms. Williams is a member of several organizations and associations to include: the National Science Teaching Association, National Association of Biology Teachers, the Colorado Education Association, the National Education Association, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Janita Matoke

Meet 2019 Pearls of the Peak Foundation, Inc. Keynote Speaker Ms. Janita Matoke. Ms. Matoke is a rising Senior at Baylor University where she studies Health Science. She aspires to become a Medical Doctor focusing in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Ms. Matoke grew up in Colorado Springs and is a previous Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Iota Beta Omega Chapter scholarship recipient. She is a lover of writing, kindness, hope, and love itself. In 2018, she published a book of poems titled "When It's All Said and Done." Ms. Matoke is passionate about many things but her largest goal in life succeeding certain measures of personal fulfillment is to forever and always impact others in a positive way. Ms. Matoke joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Spring 2019.
